Salkantay is a challenging hike in a wonderful nature and a nice alternative to the classic Inca Trail. The hike goes through a varied landscape where you experience high mountains, lush valleys, impressive glaciers and fantastic remains from a bygone culture. Along the way you pass small villages and communities such as Lucamabamba and La Playa where you get really close to the genuine Peruvian nature and culture.
Arriving at the Hydroelectrica train station we take the train to Aguas Calientes to experience the highlight for many. The magical Machu Picchu!

Reseprogram:

Cusco – Marcoccasa – Soraypampa - Salkantaypampa (B, L, M)

Shortly after 05:00 we leave Cusco and travel by bus to the Molleta area where we arrive at about 07:00 and have breakfast. We meet our porters with horses waiting for us with all the tent packing and food for the hike. The hike begins and lasts about 7-8 hours with a lunch stop along the way. We see the snow-capped Humantay massif at 5917 m.a.s.l. which is the highest point on the entire hike. The view of the Andes is magical. We go down to the village of Soraypampa where we camp and spend the night after a filling meal. Accommodation: Camping Maximum altitude: 4153 M Minimum altitude: 2850 M Hiking: 12 km, 6-7 hours

Huayracmachay-Salkantay pass-Chawllay-Collpapampa ( F, L, M )

Early morning after breakfast at 06.00 we set off on our hike that takes us to the areas of La Playa, Chaullay, Colpapampa, Wiñaypuquio and Lluscamayu. We have lunch in Lucamabamba. Today we reach the highest altitude of 4800 m.a.s.l. and set up camp in Lick Pampa at 2890m. Accommodation: Camping Max altitude: 4600 M Min altitude: 2890 M Hiking: 16 km, 7-8 hours

Collpapampa – La Playa (F, L, M)

After an early breakfast we start the hike towards La Playa. The landscape is very green and is bordered by various vegetation such as corn fields and fruit from local farms. We have the opportunity to stop and bathe in hot springs near Collpapampa. We continue to the village of La Playa where we have lunch and spend the night. Accommodation: Camping Maximum altitude: 2890 M Minimum altitude: 2100 M Hiking: 12 km, 5-6 hours

La Playa – Hidroelectrica - Aguas Calientes ( F, L, M )

Early breakfast and we continue our hike to reach Lucmabamba and Santa Teresa. We then continue towards the Hydroelectric Power Station where we have our last lunch with all the staff. Later we take the train that will take us to the village of Aguas Calientes, at the foot of Machu Picchu. Upon arrival check in at our hotel. Dinner is included this evening. Accommodation: Hotel Max altitude: 2700 M Min altitude: 1870 M Hiking: 12 km, 6-7 hours
