Imagine standing and looking out at mountains painted in all the colors of the rainbow? This is possible at Peru’s Rainbow Mountain, or Vinicuna as it is called in the local language.
The mountains are located in the Andes south of Cusco and are named for the spectacular colors that are due to different minerals in the ground.
Hiking up the mountains is quite a challenge, especially in the thin air, but the reward of the fantastic view when you reach the top makes it well worth the effort!

Reseprogram:

Cusco – Checacupe (L, M)

At approximately 06:00 you will be picked up at your hotel. After a 3 – 4 hour journey we will arrive at Quispicanchis and the small village of Checacupe where we will see the famous suspension bridge from the Inca era. We will continue to the foot of the Ausangate mountain where we will have lunch and rest for a while before continuing the hike to our campsite where we will spend the night.

Checacupe - Cusco (F)

After breakfast we start the hike towards the Rainbow Mountain “Cerro Colorado”. During the hike we will appreciate the most spectacular landscapes where the highlight is of course Rainbow Mountain. The hike takes about 6 hours and ends in the village of Jamchipata where our lunch awaits and then we travel back to Cusco.
